First Trimester - The Good News

It was a planned journey for me and my husband. And by planned, I simply mean, intended journey that we decided together.
So when I missed my cycle, I started testing at home, with home pregnancy kits, almost everyday. I bought from regular kit to highly efficient and over expensive test kit, to get the Good News. But it didn't work for me. The expected two red lines were either too light or didn't seem to appear at all.
We decided it was time to visit the Gynecologist and be sure. Soon came in the test results from Gynecologist, where they said my HCG levels were way higher than normal. I had to ask them, if that means I am pregnant! And they said Yes! Hurray! so began the beautiful journey.

First Month Appointments...

I thought getting positive pregnancy result, was all that was needed. But, that wasn't all.
Now, every week I would have Gynac's appointment, where they would say the expected development in my little one. They were like Milestones set for the my tiny little champ, the first one being the heart beat. It is out of the world experience to see the heartbeat on the screen. It is a single thread like vein, vibrating at regular frequency, and just as long as a nail. What a sight! This is when the doctor officially confirmed the pregnancy.

My first trimester was full of surprises, and all memorable. I had experienced all he symptoms that I had read online. I puked 4-5 times a day, after which I had no interest in eating. My food routine was upside down, and I was nauseous to almost everything around me, from smell to taste to look of the food on my plate. My husband literally, learned so many recipes and tried to get creative to make a new dish everyday.

We tried ample of remedies to reduce or counter nausea, but nothing worked for me. The only solution was, if I liked and enjoyed what I ate, then it stayed in, else it was expelled out within 5 minutes. All my childhood food tantrums were back! and the challenge was to eat only what I liked, and only healthy.

My sleep also went for a toss. I would sleep only 2-3 hours at a stretch. Walking, eating and puking at 3 am were the new norm.

And then comes the Gynac appointment, where we would get to see my little munchkin growing. This one black & white sight on the screen, of watching our baby grow made me forget everything else. These appointments were energy boosters for me.

What were your energy boosters during the first trimester? Was it a bumpy ride or a smooth one? Please do share your experience or a comment below.

Husbands get pregnant too!

The journey of pregnancy starts with the Good News and the excitement that follows for nine months. And it ends with a beautiful new person in life.  Well this journey is lived by both Mom-to-be as well as Dad-to-be. Including pregnancy related symptoms, anxiousness, surprises, sleepless nights, pains and faints. Don't believe me yet, read along... When we got the good news, I felt emotional and sudden gush of happiness which I didn't knew how to express and tears rolled out. My husband held my hand, and his eyes and gestures expressed that this moment was the best moment in his life. Then started my first roller coaster ride with nausea and not able to eat. With vomiting 4-5 times a day, I was struggling to keep food inside my stomach. There were so many times, when I had dinner and then puked immediately after. My husband would simply skip his dinner then, so that I could eat my round 2 or 3 of dinner. He would have to eat snacks or breads, even after

How important is HCG?

HCG Level is one of the milestone to achieve at the start of the pregnancy. HCG is a hormone whose level increases with the onset of pregnancy. The levels are different for different women, and also depends on how far has pregnancy progressed. Arough value range can be found here . HCG levels are relevant only to be sure if you are pregnant or not. Once, the HCG level detected is higher than normal levels, it will no longer be monitored. Once pregnancy has onset, sonography and vaginal ultrasound are the means with which doctor will further monitor the progress of the growing foetus. Note: All information is based on my personal experience. I am not a medical expert.

Sleep Sack, Swaddle or Blanket?

Wondering what to shop for your little one for a good night's sleep? Here's my view on what to buy out of these three? Sleeping Sack This is my most preferred option. It helps to cover baby well, especially during winters. The baby can wear cotton bodies or overall and sleep in the sack with enough space for movements of legs. I also find it one of the safest options for putting baby sleep in. Important is however, to buy the right size, so that it is not so loose around the neck, and not so tight. Beforr buying one, do read thr size instructions, as it may vary from brand to brand. You can also buy a set of sleeping sack, ehich can be used for 4-6 months. The set normally contains two simultaneous sizes of inner sack and one outer sack. Multiple sizes makes it possible to use the sack for 6 months or so. And inner and outer sack makes it possible to adjust as per weather. If ots not too cold, you can kust use inner sack. In cold winters inner and outer sack both can be used. B
